Interested in getting a Growing Chefs
team
into your classroom?

“The greatest success of the Growing Chefs
program is the students’ excitement about food.” - Christine Uchida,
Grade 3/4 Teacher, Champlain Heights Elementary
How It Works
-
The Growing Chefs In-Class Gardening Program
begins every March.
-
A team of chefs and community volunteers visits
your class every two weeks over the course of three and a half
months, for a total of seven visits.
The Program
-
As the chefs mentor your students and help them
to grow their own indoor vegetable gardens, they lead the class
through a series of lessons.
-
Each lesson uses a combination of discussions,
games, and activities to cover themes as diverse as urban
agriculture, vegetable exploration, nutrition, garden crafts, and
foods around the world.

Your Contribution
-
You can enhance the program by doing suggested enrichment activities
between visits.
-
A fee of $400.00 per
class goes towards seeds and soil, seeding flats and pots, gardening
tools, books, cooking supplies, and lesson materials.
-
We would like every
class to be able to participate in the Growing Chefs program.
Subsidies are available if necessary.
