Position title: Growing Chefs! Executive Assistant

Reporting to: Executive Director

Overall Summary Growing Chefs! is looking for a motivated and creative individual to join our team as our Executive Assistant. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide-range of activities, including event coordination, program support, community outreach, social media, administrative support and administrative duties.

This position is a four-month part time position of 20hrs/week with an anticipated start date of Sept. 1st/2012.

This position will provide you with a range of hands-on experience from event planning and coordination, program coordination, social media marketing, public relations, office administration, and fundraising. It will offer the successful candidate an inside view of the workings of a non-profit environment, and provide valuable training and job skills applicable to both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with event coordination and administration of our fall fundraising activities, including the From Farms to Forks Growing Chefs! gala
  • Provide administrative support for marketing and promotion of Growing Chefs! campaigns and events
  • Assist with Growing Chefs! donor stewardship and recognition
  • Assist in the coordination and administration of the Growing Chefs! Classroom Gardening Program
  • Participate and coordinate Growing Chefs community outreach workshops and community events. Assist with development of workshops and community outreach partnerships.
  • Attend community outreach events and host Growing Chefs! outreach tables and festival booths.
  • Generate content and update social media sites, online postings, blog, and website.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of social media campaigns to increase online presence.
  • Help with the writing, design, and proofreading of printed promotional materials.
  • Assist with administrative duties, such as data entry, filing, and other duties as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Potential candidates should possess:

  • Experience with event coordination and planning
  • An understanding of online and offline marketing and promotions
  • Fluency with social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Wordpress, Flickr, Google +, and Pinterest
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Highly organized, ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, Google Documents, and MailChimp
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Experience working with children and youth in an educational environment
  • A passion for supporting local and urban agriculture 

Additional skills an asset:

  • Experience working with a volunteer base
  • Experience in community outreach and community events
  • An understanding of data management and constituent relationship management
  • Basic knowledge of Drupal or other website content management system.

Position is based in Vancouver. Must be able to work remotely and in office. Commitment is 20hrs/ week—may occasionally include evenings and weekends and may occasionally require additional hours, which candidate will be compensated for. Remuneration is $13/hr for 20hrs week for 16-week period beginning Sept. 1st/2012.
