Local Food Challenge 2013
August 18th to August 24th, 2013
Help us raise $8000!
We need your help to celebrate local food and to raise $8000 for Growing Chefs! This money will support our Classroom Gardening Program and give more kids hands-on experience cooking and growing their own food.
Here are five ways you can help!
Sign up today to eat local from August 18th to August 24th. Create a profile and campaign on our nifty new pledge site. Set a fundraising goal for yourself. Ask your friends and family to pledge you by using the new site.
Join up as a team, business, or family. Share the fundraising and local eating challenge among your group. You can each take a day to eat local and raise money for Growing Chefs!
Pledge one of our participants.
Spread the word! Share this challenge on Twitter, Facebook, and via email.
- Make a general donation to the campaign and help us meet our goal! (Please note, as a registered non-profit, we are unable to issue CRA tax receipts).
If you're going to take the Going Local! Local Food Challenge (YAY!), we hope you have fun! There is so much amazing product in season in August. Here's how to get started:
Commit to eating local from August 18th to August 24th. We'll leave it to you to determine what that means, but we recommend the 100 Mile Diet. There are tons of amazing local resources available to you.
Allow yourself 2-3 wild cards a day. (eg. coffee, tea, citrus, salt, olive oil.) You can determine your 100 Mile Diet here.
Create a user account and campaign on our Going Local site.
Personalize it with photos and a message to your friends and family.
Set a fundraising goal. (If you want to participate, but don't want to fundraise, set your goal at $1)
Start fundraising early! Try to reach your goal before the challenge starts!
- Share with your friends and family via Facebook, Twitter, email, etc!
There are also great prizes for our top fundraisers, as well as the campaign donors!
- Two complimentary tickets to our annual From Farms to Forks gala.
- Individual Patch windowsill farm
- A four tiered greenhouse
On the final day of the challenge, August 24th, come drop by The Juice Truck's lemonade stand at Trout Lake Farmers Market for a celebration! We will be handing out prizes and there will be activities, so stay tuned for more details by following us on Twitter and Facebook (click on the icons on the top right of the page)!
