Who we are:
Growing Chefs is a non-profit society that unites chefs, growers,
educators and community members in a food sustainability project.
Our goals:
To support and encourage the development and growth of urban
agriculture.
To create a forum for chefs, educators, growers, community groups
and families to work together to further awareness of food
sustainability.
To inspire a love of growing and eating sustainable food in young
people.
Most importantly, to inspire children with the idea that
they can grow their own food, even in the city.

Classroom gardening project:
Currently Growing Chefs is focusing on an
in-class gardening and vegetable awareness project. Through
direct experience, students explore the concept of food sustainability.
Here's how it works:
- Chefs are paired with elementary
school classrooms.
- Over the course of three and a half
months, the chefs visit the classroom every two weeks, helping
the students plant and tend to indoor vegetable gardens.
- The chefs engage the children in
games, lessons and activities focusing on plant growth,
vegetable exploration, sustainability and nutrition.
- At the end of the project, the
students harvest their vegetables, and the chefs teach them to
prepare a delicious, healthy meal with what they have grown.
